Overview
Wellis is a read-only clinical operations assistant for primary care and urgent care practices. Authorized staff can look up patient demographics, insurance coverage, encounters, and billing-adjacent data from the practice EHR to support front-desk, billing, and clinical operations workflows — without modifying the chart.
Wellis is EHR-agnostic at the product level. Each deployment connects to the practice's systems through supported integrations. Practice Fusion is available today via read-only FHIR; additional EHR connectors can be added as practices require them.
Who it is for
Primary care and urgent care practices that want faster answers from the chart without adding another complex interface. Typical users include billing staff, front-desk coordinators, and clinical operations leads who need reliable lookups during the workday.
What Wellis can look up
Through supported EHR integrations, Wellis performs read-only lookups. With Practice Fusion, supported FHIR resources include:
- Patient — demographics and identifiers for matching charts
- Coverage — insurance on file and eligibility context
- Encounter — visit history for billing and follow-up
- ExplanationOfBenefit — payer responses relevant to revenue cycle work
Availability depends on the EHR and the data categories the practice authorizes. Wellis does not submit claims, edit chart notes, or schedule visits through third-party APIs.
EHR integrations
Practice Fusion (available)
Wellis integrates with Practice Fusion through the read-only FHIR API. Each practice connects Wellis independently in the Practice Fusion admin console, choosing which data categories to share.
Other EHRs
Wellis is designed to support additional EHR connectors over time. Contact Artha Technologies if your practice uses a different EHR and you want to discuss integration options.
How it works
Staff interact with Wellis through Microsoft Teams in a private practice channel. When a staff member asks a question, Wellis queries the practice's authorized EHR integration and returns a concise, task-focused answer.
Access is limited to authorized staff on HIPAA-eligible channels configured per deployment.
Security and compliance
- Read-only — no create, update, or delete against the EHR
- Per-practice authorization — each practice must approve EHR connections and data scopes
- Tenant isolation — one practice's data is never mixed with another's
- BAA-covered stack — deployed on HIPAA-eligible infrastructure when practices require it (e.g. Microsoft Teams, Azure OpenAI)
